Splitty compared with Tricount
Tricount column checked 8 October 2026. Tricount is a trademark of its owner. The terms on its website say bunq B.V., Amsterdam, owns and operates it. Tricount is not affiliated with Splitty. The Tricount column describes only what its own public pages and store listings stated on that date.
Tricount is a free app for splitting costs in a group, and it covers the core job. It is free, works offline, takes photos and handles more than one currency. Splitty was built for a different group: people who do not share one language, who pool money into a kitty before they spend it, and who want the trip itself, the flights, the stays and the receipts, in the same place as the balances.
| Feature | Splitty | Tricount |
|---|---|---|
| Languages | 52, including Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hebrew with full right-to-left layout. Each member of a trip can read it in a different language. | The US App Store listing names 37 languages. Arabic and Hebrew are on the list, so right-to-left languages are included. Farsi and Urdu are not on the list. |
| Shared kitty | First-class: contributions into a pool and expenses out of it are tracked separately, so a pooled fund and a spend-as-you-go trip both work. | The help center names three entry types: expense, transfer and income (money a participant receives for the group). A separate pooled-fund feature was not identified in the official materials checked on 8 October 2026. |
| Multi-currency | Any currency per expense, with the rate stored on the trip so later edits do not rewrite history. A free trip uses up to 2 currencies, the base included. Pro removes that limit. | Yes. The store listings say it supports multiple currencies, and the homepage lists currency conversion as included. How rates are set was not identified in the official materials checked on 8 October 2026. |
| Receipts | Photograph a receipt onto any expense. | Yes. The store listings say you can share expense photos. |
| Trip itinerary | Flights, stays and a day-by-day plan live alongside the money. | Not identified in the official materials checked on 8 October 2026. |
| Apple Wallet pass | A trip pass that updates on the lock screen as the balance moves. | A trip-balance Wallet pass was not identified in the official materials checked on 8 October 2026. The homepage offers a different link: connect a bunq Card and card payments are added as shared expenses. |
| Export | CSV of every transaction, and a PDF trip report. | The help center lists CSV and PDF export among former Premium features that are no longer available, and asks users to contact support for an export. |
| Joining | An invite link opens in any browser and a guest can join without an account. | The homepage says you can try it without signing up. The terms describe shared groups that work without a password or login, opened by a unique link. The help center says the app asks you to pick your participant the first time you join. |
| Install and offline | Free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android. The installable web app also works on Android and desktop and opens offline. | The homepage names iOS and Android. The App Store lists iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision. The store listings and the homepage say it works offline. |
| Price | Free tier with up to 12 active members and 2 currencies per group. Splitty Pro is OMR 1.500 a month or OMR 12.000 a year. | The App Store listing says free, with no subscription and no limit on groups or expenses. The help center says Premium was retired. The terms say bunq may offer extra features as monthly or annual subscriptions, and name no price. |
When Tricount is the better answer
If the group wants a free app with no plan limits, Tricount says it has no subscription and no limit on groups or expenses. Splitty has a free tier, but a free trip has a member limit and a currency limit. If the group already banks with bunq, Tricount can add bunq card payments as shared expenses and send payment requests. Arabic and Hebrew readers are covered by both apps.
When Splitty is the better answer
If some of the group reads Farsi or Urdu, Splitty has those languages with right-to-left layout, and each member can read the same trip in a different language. If money goes into a pool first, a trip fund, a household kitty or a family contribution, Splitty records contributions and spending as separate things. If the trip has flights, stays and a day plan, they sit on the same trip as the money, with a Wallet pass on the lock screen. And if someone needs the numbers outside the app, Splitty exports CSV and a PDF trip report.
What Splitty does not do
Splitty does not move money. It records who paid, who owes and who has settled. The payment itself happens wherever the group already banks. Splitty is not a payment provider and holds no funds. Tricount's terms say it helps with payments through partner services, without taking part in the transactions.
