Splitty compared with Spliit

Spliit column checked 20 October 2026. Spliit is a trademark of its owner. The privacy policy on its website says Sebastien Castiel operates the spliit.app instance, and the code is open source under the MIT License. Spliit is not affiliated with Splitty. The Spliit column describes only what its own public pages, its App Store listing and its official source code stated on that date.

Spliit is a free, open-source app for sharing group expenses: no account, no ads, no subscription, and anyone can host their own copy. Splitty was built for a different group: people who do not share one language, who pool money into a kitty before they spend it, and who want the trip itself, the flights, the stays and the receipts, in the same place as the balances.

FeatureSplittySpliit
Languages 52, including Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hebrew with full right-to-left layout. Each member of a trip can read it in a different language. Web: the homepage says 24 languages, kept by volunteers. The project's source code sets right-to-left layout for Arabic and Hebrew. Farsi and Urdu are not in the language switcher in the project's source code. iPhone: the US App Store listing names 2 languages, English and French, so no right-to-left language is listed for the iPhone app.
Shared kitty First-class: contributions into a pool and expenses out of it are tracked separately, so a pooled fund and a spend-as-you-go trip both work. Not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. The listings describe reimbursements and balances between people.
Multi-currency Any currency per expense, with the rate stored on the trip so later edits do not rewrite history. A free trip uses up to 2 currencies, the base included. Pro removes that limit. The App Store listing says "Every currency the system knows", each counted its own way (yen with no decimals, dinars with three). Whether one group can mix currencies with conversion was not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026.
Receipts Photograph a receipt onto any expense. Yes. Receipt and document images can be attached to expenses (homepage, App Store, README). The web app has an AI receipt scan marked Beta. On iPhone, the receipt is read on the device and fills in the total, date and category.
Trip itinerary Flights, stays and a day-by-day plan live alongside the money. Not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026.
Apple Wallet pass A trip pass that updates on the lock screen as the balance moves. Not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026.
Export CSV of every transaction, and a PDF trip report. The project's source code has CSV and JSON export for a group's expenses. The homepage and the App Store listing do not list export.
Joining An invite link opens in any browser and a guest can join without an account. No account. A group is reachable by its link. On iPhone, a spliit.app link opens the app and joins the group, and a group can be joined by QR code (iOS page).
Install and offline Free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android. The installable web app also works on Android and desktop and opens offline. Web app at spliit.app, a progressive web app (README), and an iPhone and iPad app that needs iOS 26 or later (App Store). The iPhone app syncs groups through iCloud. Settings can point the app at a self-hosted instance. An Android app and offline use were not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026.
Price Free tier with up to 12 active members and 2 currencies per group. Splitty Pro is OMR 1.500 a month or OMR 12.000 a year. Free. The App Store listing says "no account, no subscription and no trial" and shows no in-app purchases. The homepage says "Forever Free", no ads, and that hosting and receipt scanning are paid for by donations and sponsorships through Open Collective.
Everyday groups Circles: repeat groups for lunches, nights out and shared homes, with no trip dates. The official materials describe a group of people who share expenses, reachable by one link.

When Spliit is the better answer

If the group wants to own the software, Spliit is open source under the MIT License and you can host it yourself. The README gives one-click deploy steps, and the iPhone app can point at your own server. Nobody needs an account, there are no ads and no subscription, and the homepage says there are no limitations. Splitty has a free tier, but a free trip has a member limit and a currency limit. On iPhone, Spliit reads a receipt on the device itself. The web app offers Arabic and Hebrew with right-to-left layout, four ways to split (evenly, shares, percentage and exact amounts) and recurring expenses (Beta). The iPhone app supports Siri, Spotlight, Dark Mode, Dynamic Type and VoiceOver.

When Splitty is the better answer

If some of the group reads Farsi or Urdu, Splitty has those languages with right-to-left layout, and each member can read the same trip in a different language. Splitty's App Store listing includes Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hebrew. If money goes into a pool first, a trip fund, a household kitty or a family contribution, Splitty records contributions and spending as separate things. If the trip has flights, stays and a day plan, they sit on the same trip as the money, with a Wallet pass on the lock screen. Splitty is on Google Play for Android, and it exports CSV and a PDF trip report. And for the same people again and again, a circle keeps a running balance for lunches, nights out and a shared home, with no trip dates.

What Splitty does not do

Splitty does not move money. It records who paid, who owes and who has settled. The payment itself happens wherever the group already banks. Splitty is not a payment provider and holds no funds.
