Rihla and Splitty are both built in Oman, and both track shared costs in Omani rials to three decimals. Rihla is a free, no-signup app for friend groups in Oman and the Gulf, in Arabic and English, with WhatsApp invites and offline use. Splitty was built for a wider group: people who do not share one language, who pool money into a kitty before they spend it, and who want the trip itself, the flights, the stays and the receipts, in the same place as the balances.
| Feature | Splitty | Rihla |
|---|---|---|
| Languages | 52, including Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hebrew with full right-to-left layout. Each member of a trip can read it in a different language. | Arabic and English, with full right-to-left support for Arabic (website and store listings). The App Store language field lists English only. |
| Shared kitty | First-class: contributions into a pool and expenses out of it are tracked separately, so a pooled fund and a spend-as-you-go trip both work. | The store listings describe tracking expenses and payments by group and event. A separate pooled-fund feature was not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Multi-currency | Any currency per expense, with the rate stored on the trip so later edits do not rewrite history. Free trips use as many currencies as the trip needs. | The website names OMR to three decimals, plus AED, SAR, QAR, USD, EUR and GBP. The store listings say expenses are recorded in supported currencies with precise decimal handling. How exchange rates between currencies are set was not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Receipts | Photograph a receipt onto any expense. | The privacy policy lists optional receipt photos that a user attaches, and the delete-data page says uploaded receipt photos are deleted with the account. |
| Trip itinerary | Flights, stays and a day-by-day plan live alongside the money. | The terms describe Rihla as an app for planning shared trips and splitting expenses. Flights, stays or a day plan were not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Apple Wallet pass | A trip pass that updates on the lock screen as the balance moves. | Not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Export | CSV of every transaction, and a PDF trip report. | Not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Joining | An invite link opens in any browser and a guest can join without an account. | No signup. Invite by a WhatsApp link, a QR code or a 6-character invite code, and the website says friends join with no account. Each device starts an anonymous session. The terms say a lost device can mean lost group access unless an email was linked for recovery first. |
| Install and offline | Free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android. The installable web app also works on Android and desktop and opens offline. | The App Store lists iPhone and iPad (iOS 15.5 or later). Google Play lists the Android app. The store listings say it works offline and syncs when back online. A browser version of the app was not identified in the official materials checked on 20 October 2026. |
| Price | Free, with unlimited members and unlimited currencies. Splitty Pro, OMR 1.500 a month or OMR 12.000 a year, adds unlimited receipt scans, the PDF trip report and no ads. | Free. The terms say it is provided free of charge. The App Store and Google Play listings show no in-app purchases, and the privacy policy says Rihla runs no ads. |
| Everyday groups | Circles: repeat groups for lunches, nights out and shared homes, with no trip dates. | Built for recurring groups: the store listings say to keep one group for your people and add trips, dinners and outings inside it. They name dinner, coffee and majlis bills, and roommates. |
Why groups choose Splitty
If some of the group reads Urdu, Farsi, Hebrew or another of Splitty's 52 languages, each member can read the same trip in a different language. If the trip uses a currency beyond the seven that Rihla's website names, Splitty takes any currency per expense and keeps the rate on the trip. If money goes into a pool first, a trip fund, a household kitty or a family contribution, Splitty records contributions and spending as separate things. If the trip has flights, stays and a day plan, they sit on the same trip as the money, with a Wallet pass on the lock screen. Splitty exports CSV and a PDF trip report, and an invite link opens in any browser, so a guest can join without installing the app.
Your money stays in your bank
Splitty never holds your money. It shows who paid, who owes and who has settled, and the group pays in the banking app it already uses. Nothing to top up and nothing to withdraw.
